This handbook discusses the roles and challenges of military operations in urban areas. The authors provide an operational context for joint urban operations (JUO), outline planning considerations for JUO, and examine case studies of such operations. The handbook concludes that US national security depends upon the ability of commanders and their staff to understand and address the unique operational considerations of joint urban operations.
