This 2001 report identifies the technologies that improve the fuel efficiency of weapons platforms, placing emphasis on those with the greatest potential of implemenation within the next ten years. The authors address operational, logistical, cost, and environmental impacts for a range of practical implementation scenarios. The paper concludes that developing analytical tools, which link requirements to the acquisition of logistics in a holistic way, and using them as the basis for force structure decisions, will move the US Departmet of Defense towards a more agile, deployable, and sustainable force structure that delivers maximum capability for the budget.
