This white paper discusses Australia's counter-terrorism strategy and important changes in the way Australia responds to terrorism. This white paper sets out Australia's strengthened approach to aviation security and coordination of counter-terrorism efforts. It also sets out the first strategy to counter violent extremism in Australia. The government recommits to provide the necessary resources to Australia’s law enforcement, intelligence, security and border protection agencies to enable them to operate effectively. At the same time, it has taken steps to ensure that Australia’s response to terrorism does not inadvertently undermine the principles that the country seek to uphold.
