The Belgian modernization plan for the armed forces discusses past reforms and the reasons behind them and sets out the strategy for the modernization of the Belgian armed forces from 2000 until 2015. It argues that Belgium’s armed forces need to adapt to a changing geo-strategic environment. It also outlines the multinational and multi-institutional approach needed to solve crises and the international obligations the Belgium has to the UN, the EU, NATO and the OSCE.
