This white paper sets out South Africa's strategic statement and budget commitments to the Defence Department for the years 2011-2016. It stresses the DOD's commitment to safeguarding a better life for the people of South Africa and to contribute to freedom from fear and want. It also notes the importance of diplomatic engagement in multilateral institutions and the country's commitment to resolve conflicts peacefully through recognized international instruments and mechanisms, supported by the deployment of South African National Defence Force members to international peace missions.
