The 2010-2013 defense strategy of South Africa is focused on the strengthening of the Department of Defense's institutional structure, building up a better framework to take care of veterans and on broadening the functions of the military internationally and nationally. Defense foresight initiatives will be pursued to realize a Defense Force that is capable of defending South Africa at any time, by giving effect to the one force, core force and growth force concepts with an appropriate balance between the different forces.
