Publication

This white paper is the first following South Africa's 1994 democratic elections. It presents the country's vision on defense, in which the parliament, the public and non-governmental organizations and, of course, the Department of Defence were heavily involved. It argues that for the first time in the country's history, a white paper on defence reflects the interests of our people and represents a national consensus on this critical function of government.
