This white paper examines the role, nature and current status, the government's vision and the future South Africa's defense industry. It addresses the existing policy framework for defense related industries, provides an overview of the industries including an analysis of their economic viability. Furthermore, it discusses the critical defense industrial capabilities and technologies which need to be sustained, the acquisition and technology management structures, industrial policy and defense related industries, and the governance of the industries. Finally, it provides options for the restructuring and transformation of defense related industries.
