Stemming from the security strategy of Slovakia, this document presents the political-military tenets of Slovak defence policy, formulated with a perspective of a ten-year period. The 2005 defence strategy thus replaces the defence strategy and the military strategy of the period of transition from individual to collective defence and focuses the attention on fulfilling its commitments and effectively managing its capabilities and obligations as a member of the EU and NATO. It further defines the basic goal, the requirements for effective defence, and capabilities requirements for Slovakia's armed forces as well as for other areas of the state defence system.
