This document sets out South Africa's strategic statement and budget commitments to the Defense Department for the year 2012. The priorities to be pursued include the enhancement of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF)'s landward defense capabilities, improved maritime security, and job creation, as well as the advancement of the SANDF's peacekeeping capability and the continuation of the National Youth Service program. In addition, the document highlights the need to revitalize reserves, to restructure the defense industry, and to review the existing arrangements for the repair and maintenance program of defense facilities.
