This short brief presents the most important aspects of Lithuania's defense policy. It states that its objectives are to ensure effective fulfillment of functions in peacetime, to ensure readiness to conduct reliable defense in case of armed aggression, to contribute to the strengthening of NATO defense capacity and to other international-security building initiatives, and to maintain readiness to respond to non-military threats. Characterizing the contemporary security environment as quickly changing, complex and difficult to forecast, the brief discusses new non-conventional threats, such as terrorism, proliferation of mass destruction weapons, and cyber attacks that emerge alongside the traditional ones.
