This White Paper sets out the Irish government’s medium term strategy for defense covering the period up to. As the first-ever White Paper on Defense in Ireland, it emphasizes the government’s view of the end of the century in which Ireland achieved its independence as an opportune time to take stock and set a forward progressive course to meet the new challenges and opportunities facing Ireland and the country's defense forces. As such, the strategy provides a new framework for the on-going management and reorganization of the defense forces.
