The Long-Term Development Plan is a planning tool to enable decisions on defense acquisitions to be taken in the context of New Zealand's defense policy. In addition, the document also discusses the priority of projects and affordability. The plan links the government's defense policy objectives, with the capability requirements announced in the country's defense statement. The document contains a comprehensive list of projects, with preliminary costings, timings, and priorities. It has a rolling forward focus of 10 years. As an active document, is is updated regularly.
