The defense strategy sets out new framework parameters for Norway's security policy in response to a globalized external environment, with new transnational threats. Setting out steps to ensure Norway's national security in this new in-stable and unpredictable environment, it notes that it is important that Norway, together with its allies and partners, contributes to the prevention and limitation of crises, armed conflicts and war. Its fundamental objectives for the period 2005-2008 are: preventing war and the emergence of threats to Norwegian and collective security, contributing to peace and security and defending Norway together with allies.
