This National Security Strategy provides an overview of Australia's national security policies up to 2018. The strategy lays out the pillars of Australia’s national security, discussing its security objectives and explaining the evolution of Australia’s strategic environment. It concludes with an overview of important national security challenges and opportunities as well as a strategic outlook. It suggests that Australia will continue to benefit from the rise of Asia, but that if tensions rise, Australia must be able to promote stability in the region.
