Feminism, Difference, and Beyond
5th Annual Critical Voices in Swiss IR Conference
10–11 May 2012, Geneva
By looking at the way gender and difference matter in international relations this conference interrogated the following topics: How does the integration of considerations of gender and difference change ontologies, methodologies, and ethics in the study of international affairs? What do perspectives from the margins and theories of difference contribute in a variety of issue areas, such as war, conflict, peacebuilding, trade, development, migration, and finance? What are the effects of strategies to advance equality and fight oppression, in particular, human rights? What are the outcomes of efforts to mainstream gender, assert indigenous rights, and other perspectives from the political margins and incorporate them into policy processes?
Critical Voices in Swiss IR provides a platform for dialog and creates a network of scholars taking non‐traditional approaches to international relations. For the fifth consecutive year, it brought together the small but growing community of scholars in Switzerland and beyond employing critical approaches in their research on international affairs, such as social constructivism, critical theory, feminism, historical materialism, post‐structuralism, and post‐colonial theory. The conference series is organized by the Graduate Institute, Geneva, the University of Lausanne, the University of Geneva, and the CSS.
