CSS Brown Bag Webinar: “Strategic Trends IV: China as a Stress Test for Europe’s Coherence”
On Thursday, 25 June 2020, Center for Security Studies (CSS) held the CSS Brown Bag Webinar on “Strategic Trends IV: China as a Stress Test for Europe’s Coherence”.
Linda Maduz, Senior Researcher in the Global Security Team, and Henrik Larsen, Senior Researcher in the Team Swiss and Euro-Atlantic Security, distinguished six methods of Chinese power in Europe as a basis for an assessment of viable policy options: from trade responses (industrial policy, investment screening) to political initiatives to preserve unity. Beijing's handling of the corona crisis has increased European scepticism about China, as seen in the U-turn in a number of states on the choice of 5G network providers.
