This paper recommends ways to teach the economics, ideology, and morality of the Cold War period more effectively. It provides a number of classroom activities that ideally will help students better understand 1) the troubled history of Mao’s China; 2) the Soviet Union’s Gulag system; 3) the nature and practicalities of the Marshall Plan; 4) the Khmer Rouge genocide; and 5) the works of Alexander Solzhenitsyn and Friedrich Hayek.
