This paper comments on the May 2009 political crisis in Nepal, during which the army chief was sacked and the prime minister resigned in protest. It examines the Nepal army's defiance and its resistance to democratization and reform. The author analyzes the politics of the civil-military conflict in the country and gives an outlook of possible developments.
