Publication

This publication is a summary of an expert workshop held in June 2009 at the Stimson Center on security sector reform (SSR). It discusses the US definition of SSR, provides a brief overview of Stimson work in the area and assesses US efforts to support SSR globally, with a special focus on Africa. It concludes with a discussion of requirements the workshop participants regarded as necessary for in order for SSR to be effective.
