This paper discusses the implications of China's WTO membership for its international trade relations. With its opening up to world trade, China has become a major economic player whose impact on the global economy provokes awe and worry. However, the author emphasizes the positive aspects of China's growth and its economic integration within the WTO framework on world welfare, and recommends that rather than adopt protectionist policies, countries should adapt to a rapidly changing world.
