This report tries to make sense of and forecast developments in Northern Africa and the Middle East after the regime of Ben Ali in Tunisia collapsed. Despite continued local revolts, the author argues, regimes will remain stable, at least in the short term. Examining country by country, the author finds that Egypt and the Palestinian Authority are the most threatened. He also considers Israel's increasing isolation and the "Turkish model", which provides for a possible way out of the crisis.
