This paper examines the role that gender plays in the implementation and effectiveness of social protection programs in Peru. In particular, it focuses on a conditional cash transfer (CCT) program called "Programa de Apoyo a los Más Pobres – Juntos", implemented from 2005, which reaches nearly half a million rural households. This programs aims to break the intergenerational transmission of poverty and promote household investment in human capital by facilitating access to public services in the areas of health, education and nutrition.
