This report draws on the findings from research undertaken as part of the Accountability in Tanzania (AcT) Programme. It also examines the Mama Misitu (“Mother Forests”) Campaign. This was launched in 2008 as a collective response to a report by the civil society organisation TRAFFIC, which highlighted the value of forest resources for the livelihoods, communities and government of the Tanzanian people, and how illegal logging deprives Tanzanians of the benefits of this natural resource.
