This briefing discusses the arguments in favor of strengthening the re-export controls associated with UK arms sales. Re-export controls are conditions included in export agreements requiring the importer state to seek the permission of the exporter before re-exporting the products on to a third party. While the UK Government has acknowledged the principle of this type of arms control, it has so far been reluctant to apply re-export controls widely.
