This paper examines the effect of age structure on economic growth in China. China has transformed from the phase of high fertility, high mortality and low natural growth to a phase of low fertility. The paper makes an attempt to study two related issues: the trends and issues of China’s demographic history and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the Chinese economy vis-à-vis its negative demographic dividend/demographic debt.
