This is a transcript of a discussion on investment strategies for Africa with Helen Zille, the leader of South Africa's Democratic Alliance political party. Zille argues that the notion of South Africa or Africa as a hopeless country and continent needs tempering. At the same time, however, the notion of a frontier of unrestrained economic growth and democratization also needs to be revisited. In her talk, she lays out the risks regarding Africa’s growth and what is needed to prevent them. She concludes that an understanding of Africa's resource curse along with institution building are essential for South African growth.
