This paper examines the reasons why the 2010 presidential elections in Côte d’Ivoire led to violent conflict. It will also discuss the lessons which can be drawn from this crisis as well as the strategies which should be implemented to achieve sustainable peace in the country. The author concludes that Ivorian democracy must reconcile the country's factions in order to consolidate long-term peace.
