This paper discusses the rise of politician Narendra Modi and his potential as a candidate for the position of prime minister of India. The authors discuss what his rise might mean for the landscape of Indian politics and examine his track record as Minister in Gujarat as well as his electoral impact on different socioeconomic strata. Despite his potential, the authors note that due to the coalitional nature of Indian politics, it is difficult to see him gaining the position of prime minister.
