This commentary discusses the prospects of political and economic reform in North Korea under the rule of Kim Jong-un. It argues that Kim Jong-un can only be moved by the wrath of his people or by strong pressure from the Chinese. Kim Jong-un's only constraints are the fear that the Chinese might someday pull the plug on his economy and the fear that his hard-line military might turn against him.
