This issue of BPSR provides insights into issues of development, democratization and politics in South America, with a particular focus on Brazil. The articles featured look at the link between economic and political inequality; the role of biofuels in Brazil; the impact of the efficiency of government on a country's economic performance; the effect of socializing experiences on the political attitudes of youngsters; political representation of women in Rio Grande do Sul; and Brazil's electoral governance model. The issue also includes a review of a book on Marx's political theory.
