This brief argues that the US should rethink its policy and strategy in order to more effectively address security challenges in conflict areas. It argues that, despite good intentions, current US policies towards areas of conflict are inadequate and tend to address the symptoms rather than the causes. Adopting community-oriented approaches and examining causes of conflict would allow the US to address insecurity more effectively.
