Drawing from results of over fifty interviews and the study of three newspapers, this paper identifies internal and external pressures that profoundly limit the autonomy of Palestinian print journalists. Key concerns include Israeli and Palestinian violence, the economics of printing in Palestine, self-censorship, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, and internal newspaper organization. She concludes that Palestinian print media remains an “occupied” fourth estate.
