This brief discusses specific measures in place at the national and international level to prevent sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). It claims that if the world’s governments, civil society experts and practitioners wish to demonstrate their genuine commitment to preventing SGBV, these must be accompanied by action on the ground. It then puts forth some recommendations for taking commitments on preventing sexual violence form word to action, with a particular focus on the role of security and justice sector reform.
