Oct 2013

This paper examines the nuclear forces of the United States, with a particular focus on 1) their status as of October 2013; 2) the doctrine and policy that guide their potential use; and 3) plans for the next generation of weapons. The author also discusses the prospects for the reduction of US nuclear weapon forces and what can be done by both the US and Russia to improve the conditions that could lead them both to reduce their nuclear arsenals.
