This brief examines how the Central European gas market has changed since the EU announced in 2011 that it wanted to unify the European market. More specifically, it looks at 1) how liberalized domestic gas markets have become; 2) the expansion of infrastructure in the region; 3) changes in the ownership of gas companies; 4) the renegotiation of gas contracts; and 5) the main obstacles to further gas market integration in Central Europe.
