This paper examines the way in which Turkey's foreign policy has been subordinated to the precepts of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) ideology. The author first discusses the origins and main contents of the AKP's ideology and then looks at Ankara’s efforts to implement this ideology in its foreign policy, especially towards the Middle East and the West. He argues that a mismatch between Ankara's ideology and the expectations of Turkey's partners in both the West and the Middle East has increasingly isolated Turkey in the international arena.
