This brief ponders why France's President Hollande has remained silent on a possible Brexit from the EU and the negotiations that are presently underway between London and Brussels. The brief’s author concludes that Hollande's silence is largely attributable to the inward turn of French politics, which itself reflects 1) a loss of confidence and stature within the EU, and 2) a domestic preoccupation with security. Given these circumstances, the author concludes that Hollande is content to let other EU leaders take the responsibility of responding to Cameron’s demands.
