This edition of ACLED's Conflict Trends report focuses on 1) early 2016 protests in Chad; 2) ongoing police abuses in Egypt; 3) the violent resurfacing of the Mozambican National Resistance movement (RENAMO) in Mozambique; 4) recent attacks against foreign nationals in Burkina Faso, the Ivory Coast and Mali by al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and al-Mourabitoun; and 5) the rise of organized anti-state violence in the aftermath of President Museveni’s electoral victory in Uganda. The report also includes a special feature on the relationship between leadership survival and “hired guns.”
