This brief assesses the current state of the China-Taiwan cross-strait relationship and ponders the direction it might take in the wake of the 19th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which will occur in October-November 2017. The text’s author also speculates on whether President Tsai Ing-wen will try to convince the PRC that it should accept her government as an equal and legitimate dialogue partner.
