This paper discusses the successes and challenges of non-state actors' (NSA) involvement in humanitarian mine action. The paper outlines global findings for the assessment of NSA mine action and describes their involvement in different aspects of it, commenting on mine ban advocacy, stockpile destruction, mine clearance, mine risk education and victim assistance. The paper argues that NSAs must be considered as potentially positive actors in mine action.
