As with previous editions, Strategic Trends 2018 offers a concise analysis of major developments in world affairs, with a primary focus on international security. More specifically, the chapters look at 1) how global and domestic constraints are threatening the US’ longstanding role of international leadership; 2) China-Russia relations at the bilateral, regional and global levels; 3) technological advancements in energy and their potential impact on international politics; and 4) the rise of resilience in security policy over the last decade, with a focus on how the process of building resilience is particularly relevant in the context of credible threat deterrence.
