Microsoft President Brad Smith recently called for the creation of an international legal regime for cyberspace that would take its inspiration from the Geneva Conventions. So, what might this ‘digital Geneva’ convention look like and could it work? This article answers these questions by examining 1) previous attempts to create international cybersecurity agreements; 2) the six principles Smith suggested could provide the legal power of the convention, and more.
