The publication examines China's bid to achieve water security by harnessing supplies from trans-boundary rivers. More specifically, the author assesses relevant domestic Chinese water policies and damming initiatives, and further highlights Beijing’s reluctance to participate in bilateral and multinational agreements concerning trans-boundary water resources. The piece concludes with a discussion of the implications of these policies for India, stressing the importance for New Delhi to secure a water sharing treaty with Beijing if it is to ensure the Brahmaputra basin´s water security.
