This paper focuses on the 2006 political developments in Bangladesh. It discusses the foreign policy of Bangladesh and its relations with India, Pakistan, the EU and China. The author also examines aspects of religious extremism which caused a near collapse of the state in 2005. He concludes that Bangladesh is in danger of losing its legitimacy, but the 2007 general elections, if conducted in a free and fair manner will help restoring the credibility of the state.
