This edition of the Elcano Global Presence Report ranks 90 countries according to how “out there” they are – that is to say, how they are shaping and participating in the process of globalization through economic, military and soft power means. More specifically, the report explores 1) China's rise to second place on the index; 2) how the collapse of commodities prices has negatively affected the presence of emerging economies; 3) the slowing rate of global presence in general, to include its "re-concentration"; and 4) the growing belief among analysts that the world has become a "harder" place.
