The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an independent, politically neutral organization that works to ensure humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of war and armed violence. It holds a permanent mandate under international law to perform these actions on behalf of prisoners, the wounded and sick, and civilians.
