Drones are now everywhere, both in the civilian and military domains. Conflicts have shown that these inexpensive systems can provide significant capabilities to the forces they engage. Despite the potential threat posed by drones, the Swiss Armed Forces are relatively illequipped to operate and deal with such systems. The addition of drones to the ground forces would generate real added value for the fighting troops. It would also mean a small revolution, the return of the third dimension to the army, argues CSS' Constant Paul Despont in this article published in stratos.
