Quentin Merle

Quentin Merle is a Researcher at the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich. Previously, he was the Research and Teaching Assistant to Prof. Andreas Wenger, the CSS Director. He was also a Gen A Fellow at Asia Society Switzerland.

He holds an MSc in Contemporary Chinese Studies from the University of Oxford and an Honours BA in International Studies from Leiden University with a Major in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic. At Oxford, he focused on China’s economic reforms and international relations and wrote his thesis on Sino-Swiss relations. At Leiden University, he was part of the Honours College Governance and Global Affairs, where he focused on International Law and AI. He also joined Leiden Model United Nations, for which he won an award at the Harvard National MUN conference.

His research interests include China’s international relations and political economy, Sino-European relations, emerging tech and semiconductors, and Swiss & European foreign policy.
