CSS Brown Bag Webinar: "Strategic Trends III: China's Belt and Road Initiative in Eurasia"

China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a unique endeavor that takes many shapesand is hard to grasp. In this CSS Brown Bag Webinar on 11 June 2020, Benno Zogg, Senior Researcher at the CSS, dealt with the BRI in Eurasia. There, one can already observe many manifestations of Chinese investments. Some countries in this vast space have become important for transit between China and Europe and as resource suppliers to China. Through its increasing economic and political engagement, even in the security sphere and through multilateral formats, China has built the basis for considerable leverage. Local governments and populations, meanwhile, have very different ways of dealing with this new actor.
